Afghan Refugee Resettlement Project

Partnered with Islington Council, KMEWO since 2020 offers support as well as integration services and activities to newly arrived Afghan refugees in Islington.

At the first phase of the project,  KMEWO devoted 5 days per week in Bridging Hotel, where the refugees were hosted, providing, welfare benefits support and navigation support. We linked in with a multi agency identifying safeguarding concerns, escalating urgent health, school and other enquiries to relevant members of the MDT team. We also offered tailored advice and advocacy, ongoing emotional and trauma informed support.

Later on, after the settlement of Afghan Refugee Families in Islington, KMEWO continued to provide support to them through the provision of general advice and advocacy as well as integrative activities.

A women-only group called ‘Stars’, ستاره ها in Dari was formed to provide community and integrative activities, group well being sessions and mother tongue support to Afghan Refugee women in Islington.
